Going for gold!
All that glitters is gold on the stunning new Bullion vodka label produced by Western Cape based Lebone Paarl Labels. More specifically, it is the combination of Pantone gold metallic ink and gold hot foil that lends this elegant label its attention grabbing sophisticated finish. The idea to launch this premium vodka was the brain child of Chris Augoustatos and Dino Michael. Over lunch in the lockdown prohibition, they identified the need for a prestigious vodka brand that stood out on the shelf.
After scouring the internet, they selected the name, Bullion, as it reflected an association with something valued and precious. “Our aim was to produce a vodka for the discerning market where the consumer would experience the feeling of power, opulence and value of the superior taste experience,” explains Chris. “Amongst the abundant options on the market, this seven times distilled vodka offers a rare and special drinking experience.”
Chris and Dino collated their ideas into a label design that would exude quality and luxury. “The label is the first step in the Bullion experience to attract the consumer and reflect its distinction,” adds Chris. Whilst they were clear about what they wanted to achieve in the look, neither knew anything about the actual self-adhesive label printing and finishing processes available “This is where Dewald added so much value,” highlights Chris. Dewald Venter, Sales Representative from Lebone Paarl Labels, took them through samples of the different options available, discussing their possible application to the Bullion pressure sensitive label (PSL). “In addition to foiling, I suggested the inclusion of a high build varnish finish on selected areas of the background pattern and to the name, Bullion, to add texture to the design,” says Dewald. “Their final mandate to us was to include all the bells and whistles to make the label look incredible.”
“Technically very complex,” is how Arrie van Wyk, Operations Manager at Lebone Paarl Labels, describes the production of the Bullion label. “This was the first time we used our state of the art HP Indigo WS6800 digital press to print full colour CMYK plus metallic ink on both the front and reverse sides to create a back printed image of a bank safe,” explains Arrie. “Therefore, registration of both runs had to be perfectly aligned with each other.” The clear propylene used allows clear visibility of this image on the back of the label adding to the overall gold theme and the appeal of the label. It also offers excellent ice bucket properties. The Bullion label was then finished off on the latest series 3 ABG Digicon with gold hot foiling and a high gloss high build varnish to contrast with the overall matt look. “The end result is a beautiful layered and tactile feel that utlises all the embellishments we have to offer,” adds Arrie.
“We so appreciate all the effort and great service Lebone Paarl Labels offered us,” “concludes Chris. “Our final label looks incredible and we can’t wait to see both our 500ml and 750ml bottles shine like pure gold on the retail shelf.”
